HEAT TREAT SOAK TIME - SPECIFICATION VS REALITY

How do you define soak time? Does soak time begin when parts are placed in the furnace set at the specifice heat treat temperature? Or does it start after parts have reached the set temperature in the furnace?

If it is the latter when do you decide parts are at temperature? When the parts have reached the set temperature, or they have reached a temperature within a range of that temperature as defined by the tolerances of the furnace?

And then how is that temperature determined? Load blocks? Certain time in furnace, i.e. 20 minutes per inch of cross section? or by looking at the parts?

If you'd like to know the answers to these questions, please join us Wednesday April 23, for a discussion on this exact topic, hosted by our very own Bob Gassner. I'm sure this will be a lively debate.

For reservations, please contact Marc Kashinsky or call (805)271-2242.

Hope to see you all there!
