March 2005 Meeting Information

MIG Carbide Welding

Come join Rodger W. Spriggs, as he discusses the process of carbide welding using large Tungsten Carbide granules sprinkled into a molten weld pool, which results in a composite that is highly resistant to abrasive wear.

It is widely applied as a coating on tools that engage the ground.  Examples are construction and mining equipment, oil tools used for drilling and other abrasive wear applications. Presentation will consist of slides, weld samples and parts.

Since 1990, Rodger W. Spriggs Engineering has custom designed and built specialized equipment for weld applications of hardfacing alloys (primarily MIG Carbide). His customers use it to apply hardfacing to tools used in agriculture, mining, construction, crushing , trash shredding , grading, and tunneling. You will be amazed by the  productivity improvements being realized in these fundamental industries.

Rodger received his undergraduate education from LB State (BS),  followed by advanced courses in material science at USC, UCLA, and Cal Tech. Welding engineering and allied processes was his special field of interest. During his 35 years of experience as a development welding engineer with Stoody Company (22 years) and others he specialized in the applications of hardfacing alloys and hardfacing weld processes. His work has taken him all over the world solving welding and application problems in the field.

This is sure to be an interesting topic.  For reservations please call (805)271-2242 or e-mail your request. We'll be looking forward to seeing you there.
