November 2008 Meeting

Awards Night

Joint Meeting with ASM Orange Coast and South Bay Chapters

Speaker:
Mr. Roger J. Fabian, FASM
ASM President (2008-2009)

Topic:
Translating the Language of Success: Managing a Multi-Plant Metal Processing Operation Worldwide

Abstract:

Bodycote is a multi-national company comprised of 300 plants in 30 countries, with 11,000 employees who speak 15 different languages.  As you can imagine, running an organization of this size and complexity requires a realistic and proven understanding of what works – and what doesn’t.

We will look at the financial controls necessary to efficiently and successfully run a multi-plant business worldwide, as well as how capital is used in the most efficient way to provide the greatest return on capital invested and the greatest return to shareholders.

In addition, we will discuss the challenges of varying quality systems, computer systems (operational and accounting), risk management, branding, technology transfer, purchasing power and -- most importantly -- finding, training and motivating people.

Through this presentation, you’ll see Bodycote from the perspective that a potential investor has of us: as a company dedicated to serving the metal processing industry.  The most meaningful perspective in the entire mix comes from our customer, who dictates day-to-day plant behavior and whose global economic clout shapes the Bodycote Strategic Plan.
