The Los Angeles ASM Chapter invites you to participate in the 2008 Student Night poster\oral presentation competition.

Have interesting topic related to the material science field? Then submit your abstract today to present to fellow students and professionals in the Los Angeles Area!

The Los Angeles ASM Chapter is accepting abstracts for presentations for the upcoming ASM Student Night to be held April 22nd 2008. The event will be held at So. Cal Gas Co. Energy Resource Center. Abstracts which will be considered include those which involve topics in all areas within and directly impacting the materials science field. All Southern California area educational institutions are invited to participate (including area high schools and junior colleges) 

Abstracts should be approximately 250 words. No tables or figures should be included. All submissions will be reviewed.

Judging Criteria

Judged will be conducted on the basis of presentation, completeness and understanding of effort, as well as the conclusions, value, technical relevance, and level of difficulty of work performed. Please keep in mind that all levels of work will be considered.

Event Format

Presentations will be made via poster or oral format depending on the number of entries to be judged. Those selected for presentation will be notified no later than April 2nd, 2008, and will be informed of the specific format at that time.

In the event the format is given via poster session, presenters may affix a prepared summary of their completed work on poster board or print a series of 8.5”X11” sheets which can be affixed to a board or on the wall of the presentation room. In the event the format is given via oral presentation, participants will be supplied the appropriate audiovisual equipment such that either Adobe Acrobat or PowerPoint presentations can be given. Regardless of format, presenters should plan on being allotted 15-20 minutes for topic presentation and questions; all material shall be authored such that all test and figures can be clearly viewed by audience and judges. 

Presentations will be scheduled for a 90 minute block of time during the evening which presenters are expected to be available to present their work to a panel of judges and discuss their work with other attendees. The session is intended to afford students a relaxed atmosphere where attendees can share their ideas with other students and professional from across a wide variety of disciplines and institutions within the Los Angeles area.
